127 dead in Monroe County as confirmed COVID-19 cases reach 1,537

As of Sunday, May 3, 2020, the Monroe County Department of Health has confirmed 127 people have died amid 1,537 positive coronavirus tests in the county.

Of the 1,537 cases, 33 are new as of Sunday afternoon.

Of all of the cases reported, they include the following patients, by age and gender:

  • Five boys and four girls under 10
  • 21 between 10 and 19, 7 male and 14 female
  • 206 are in their 20s, 61 men and 146 women
  • 230 are in their 30s, 83 men and 147 women
  • 172 are in their 40s, 64 men and 108 women
  • 223 are in their 50s, 104 men and 119 women
  • 217 are in their 60s, 103 men and 117 women
  • 201 are in their 70s, 90 men and 111 women
  • 153 are in their 80s, 63 men and 90 women
  • 101 are in their 90s, 31 men and 70 women
  • 1 woman 100 years old or older

105 people are currently hospitalized as of Sunday afternoon, 22 of whom are in the ICU.

Genesee County

150 people have tested positive for the virus as of Friday afternoon. Three people have died of coronavirus.

The individuals who died were over the age of 65. The most-recent death was reported Wednesday, April 15. The patient lived in the central part of the county. No other details were released.

A total of 52 people are in mandatory quarantine, while 14 are in mandatory isolation.

81 people have recovered.

There have been 880 negative test results in the county.

Livingston County

80 positive test results have come in as of Saturday afternoon. Five people have died – a man in his 20s in Caledonia, an man in his 80s who lived at an Avon nursing home and three Avon women in their 80s who had underlying health issues, according to health officials.

Five new cases were confirmed Saturday: A Mount Morris man in his 40s, a Mount Morris man in his 20s, a Geneseo woman in her 50s, a Conesus man in his 70s and an infant in North Dansville.

There have been 1,078 negative test results in the county.

Ontario County

98 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Ontario County as of Friday afternoon, with three new cases confirmed on Friday. Nine people are in the hospital. Nine people have died from the virus.

The county says 1,672 tests have come back negative.

59 people are in quarantine or isolation, and 56 have recovered.

Orleans County

96 people have tested positive for the virus as of Friday afternoon, according to county officials. There are 40 people under mandatory quarantine, while 16 are in mandatory isolation.

13 people have died from coronavirus in Orleans County.

31 people have recovered.

566 tests have come back negative in the county.

Seneca County

34 people have been confirmed to have the virus in Seneca County as of Thursday afternoon. One person, a man in his late 60s, died from coronavirus.

“We send our most heartfelt condolences on behalf of Seneca County to his family,” said C. Mitchell Rowe, Seneca County Manager.

Five patients are currently hospitalized and 33 people are under quarantine.

25 people have recovered.

Steuben County

As of Friday afternoon, there have been 234 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Steuben County. The three newest patients are from Corning, Erwin and Urbana. One patient is from a Bath-area nursing home.

Six patients are hospitalized. 128 patients have recovered.

38 patients have died. The most recent patient to die was a 98-year-old man from a Bath-area nursing home.

In a statement, Public Health Director Darlene Smith said, “All of the individuals who have passed are meaningful to others. They are our mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, grandparents, neighbors, and friends. We know that many of the Steuben residents who have died are elderly, but that does not offer a whole lot of comfort to their loved ones. Let’s all prioritize precautions to save lives.”

1,689 tests for COVID-19 have come back negative.

Many of the positive diagnoses stem from testing of residents and employees at a Hornell-area nursing home. The county reports positive diagnoses in a number of nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Officials say one or more patients reported visiting the following locations in the period in which they first began feeling symptoms or within 48 hours of becoming symptomatic:

  • Corning Walmart – May 1 (Morning)
  • Corning Wegmans – April 21 (Afternoon), May 1 (Morning)
  • Tops in Bath – April 18
  • Kwik FIll, Hammondsport – April 18
  • Dollar Genera, Bath – April 18
  • Hornell Walmart – April 18 (Late evening)
  • Hornell Wegmans – April 18 (Late evening)
  • Tops in Corning – Afternoon of April 19
  • Bath VA Medical Center, Building 35 – April 20 (Morning)
  • Big Lots in Painted Post – Afternoon of April 20
  • Hammondsport Grocery Store – April 22 (Morning)
  • Southpoint Correctional Facility, Pine City – April 23-24
  • McDonald’s drive-thru, Corning – April 27 (Afternoon)
  • Rite Aid drive-thru, Bath – April 29

In the case of Giovanni’s Pizzeria, officials say a patient who had tested positive for the virus broke quarantine and went to the location.

Anyone was at any of these places on these dates who may be experiencing symptoms should contact their primary care provider.

Wayne County

75 positive cases have been confirmed as of Sunday morning.

One person in their 60s died at a hospital after contracting coronavirus. The person had multiple underlying serious health conditions before they tested positive for COVID-19. The county did not offer a location or gender for the patient who died.

The ages and genders of some of these patients are as follows:

  • 2 children under age 10
  • 11 cases in their 20s
  • 11 cases in their 30s
  • 11 cases in their 40s
  • 15 people in their 50s
  • 12 people in their 60s
  • 11 people in their 70s
  • 2 people in their 80s

The county says 1,225 people have been tested. Of those tests, 1,152 have come back negative.

46 of the cases have resolved.

Wayne County Public Health officials are strongly recommending wearing a cloth mask or face covering at all times if you go out for an essential trip in public.

Wyoming County

68 people have tested positive for coronavirus as of Friday afternoon, five of whom have died.

Of those 68 patients, 23 are from the county’s northwest quadrant (Attica, Bennington, Orangeville and Sheldon), 12 are from the southwest quadrant (Arcade, Eagle, Java, Wethersfield), 15 are from the southeast quadrant (Castile, Gainesville, Genesee Falls and Pike), and 18 are from the northeast quadrant (Covington, Middlebury, Perry and Warsaw).

The individuals who died lived in the northeast quadrant.

47 of the 68 patients in the county have recovered.

37 are in mandatory quarantine, and 16 are in mandatory isolation. Of tests conducted in the county, 480 have come back negative.

Yates County

28 cases have been confirmed as of Friday afternoon. 28 people are in quarantine. One person is currently hospitalized. The county said 263 tests have come back negative.

Two cases of coronavirus have been confirmed at The Homestead in Penn Yan, according to Yates County Public Health officials.

15 people have recovered.

Deborah Minor, Yates County Public Health Director, is urging people to use cloth face coverings when they are going out in public, but reminds people that it is not a substitute for social distancing.

“These coverings help to slow the spread, primarily by reducing the risk of someone giving the virus to others – especially when that someone may have the virus but does not know it,” Minor said.
