Everything still stands, if your region meets all the requirements, you can begin to reopen starting on Friday.
That’s the rule for all of New York.
Here in Rochester and the Finger Lakes region, we could learn more on Monday after Gov. Andrew Cuomo speaks with county executives from across the state.
Keep in mind, the entire region has to be ready to reopen, not just the county.
The governor has established criteria that regions will have to adhere to before opening.
The Finger Lakes region as of last week met all but two of the criteria: testing and contact tracing.
As of Friday, we learned Monroe County had reached 765 tests daily. County Health Commissioner Michael Mendoza told us the threshold is 750 tests to reopen but, again, that is Monroe County.
News10NBC has reached out to both Bob Duffy, who’s in charge of reopening the Rochester region, and the governor’s office for details on where we stand on testing and tracing as a region.
County Executive Adam Bello said he thinks the region will be ready by Friday.
However, the governor made it clear on Sunday that he will not compromise on the requirements.
“Do they have the hospital beds open in case that infection rates goes up? Do they have testing, tracing, isolation that we’ve all been talking about for weeks and weeks and weeks?” Cuomo asked. “Do they have that operation in place and do they have a compliance function in place where, when we say manufacturing businesses can reopen but people must be 6 feet apart, they can actually monitor those businesses to make sure there is compliance?”
Although the stay at home order expires on Friday, Cuomo did extend his executive powers to make coronavirus decisions without approval until June 6.
The key he says: keeping a close watch on the infection rate.
