At the Park Ave Salon and Day Spa in Rochester, the phone is ringing for possible appointments, and owner Stacey Cudzilo is beginning to make adjustments to be ready for those appointments.
So far, she’s added sneeze guards for nail specialists, spaced out seats for haircuts, and is working on a lengthy list of other safety measures.
“I want to make sure that we are following every measure we can to keep people safe,” Cudzilo said.
It’s a plan shared by many business owners set to be open under phase two of New York’s reopening plan, but- they’re not quite sure when they’ll have the go-ahead.
“The governor has mentioned that Friday is going to be a magic day,” Owner of Fleet Feet Rochester Ellen Brenner-Boutillier said. “He’s going to make a decision, and people are making plans right now.”
Rochester Chamber of Commerce CEO and the head of the Finger Lake’s regional reopening plan Bob Duffy said Friday is not a guarantee.
“We don’t know,” Duffy said. “We will probably find out in the next day or so, we are looking forward to that, but he [Governor Cuomo] has made no statement about this and I’ve learned one thing: Don’t get ahead of the governor.”
In a statement, a spokesperson for New York’s Empire State Development said:
“The state will be releasing detailed guidance on what industries and businesses are included in each phase as soon as possible. As with businesses that were allowed to reopen during phase 1, businesses allowed to reopen during phase 2 will also be subject to forthcoming health guidance. “
There are also questions over which specific industries will be counted in phase two. News10NBC spoke with Melissa Endres, who operates RELAX The Spa in Victor, she’s outlined similar guidelines to the park ave salon and is preparing to be open when phase two does.
Under the state’s list, ‘professional services’ are listed, but, Endres says she has not received clear guidelines on whether her spa fits the bill.
“It’s a waiting game right now for us,” Endres said. “I know we’re ready, I know my staff is ready, they can’t wait to get back to their regular clients.”
