The City of Rochester and surrounding communities are beginning the clean-up and recovery after 15 hours of unrest and violent protests.

A peaceful protest against racial injustice and the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis was attended by hundreds of demonstrators. The scene turned violent later in the day, leading to curfews from the City of Rochester and Monroe County. Those curfews were lifted early Sunday morning.

Rochester Regional Transit Service announced early Sunday morning it is shutting down service for the day “to help ensure the safety of employees and customers.” It will resume normal service Monday.

The City of Rochester has announced a clean-up to begin at 10 a.m. and is encouraging residents to participate. Interested residents are encouraged to come to Frontier Field’s VIP Parking Lot. City DES will provide garbage bags, PPE and other cleaning materials to encourage residents to help.
