Rochester, N.Y. – With the busy holiday almost here, Mr. Dominic’s at the Lake in Charlotte has decided it won’t do business over the Fourth of July weekend. Other businesses in the neighborhood are said to be doing the same

.

Mr. Dominic’s will be closed Saturday through Monday out of concern for the safety of customers and employees. It’s not due to COVID-19, but reported suspicious activity seen on weekends over the last month.

Andrea Bullock, manager of Mr. Dominic’s, says the neighborhood has not been safe at night over the last month. Bullock says there have been speed races in the neighborhood, fireworks and crowds loitering and smoking marijuana.

It’s a lack of respect, Bullock says, that is enough to close the restaurants’ doors at one of its busiest times of the year.

“With the way Charlotte has been declining in the past month, there has been police presence. But, we feel there should be more. Charlotte is not what it used to be. I don’t feel it’s safe for families to come down right now, especially at nighttime,” says Bullock, “It’s sad because a lot of people do like to go to restaurants on holidays, but it’s just not safe right now. We’re here to stay. Right now, it’s just tough down here.”

The Rochester Police Department tells 13WHAM it has increased patrols in the area and has made arrests when necessary.
