Coronavirus in Monroe County: 108 total deaths, 19 new confirmed cases, bringing total to 1,296

The Monroe County Department of Health announced Monday two new deaths and 19 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 1,296.

A total of 108 people have died from COVID-19 in Monroe County.

As of Monday, the county’s COVID-19 dashboard shows 100 people are currently hospitalized and 21 of them are in ICU on a ventilator.

Of the 1,296 confirmed cases, 601 people have recovered from the disease. The health department says 764 people — confirmed positive COVID-19 cases and known presumed positive COVID-19 cases — have recovered from isolation to date.

Three weeks ago, the county also provided the following breakdown of hospitalizations, ICU data, and deaths by race:

The first person to die from the novel coronavirus in Monroe County was a 54-year-old man who died at Rochester General Hospital on March 17. Two of the dead were residents of the Ontario Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Hopewell. One was a resident of The Hurlbut Nursing Home in Brighton.
