The owner of Salon Lidori in Greece has put up dividers, a sanitation area, and extra cleaning products at every station.

Susan Polidori says she’s paid $2,000 for these changes so she can reopen her salon after the pandemic forced its closure nearly three months ago.

But, the state hasn’t said when opening day might be.

“They don’t know,” she said. “That’s the only answer I get all the time, that they can’t tell me anything.”

While Gov. Andrew Cuomo didn’t mention Phase 2 during this daily press conference on Thursday, later, on WAMC Radio, he said the state was seeking expert advice to make the decision.

“We’ll give all the experts all the data. It’s posted on the web, but let them analyze it. And if they say we should move forward, we move forward,” he said.

With revenue dried up and the uncertainty around a reopening date, Polidori says her livelihood is at stake.

“It’s going to be hard to survive because my rent is not going to go lower, my RG&E is not going to go lower and employees are not going to be able to make the money they normally make,” she said.

Polidori says she wishes the state would give guidance on how many staff or clients she can have in the salon and what services they’re limited in offering.

The owner of Peppermint Boutique is also in limbo.

“Your staff is looking at you as a leader and you’re trying to lead them, but you don’t want to lead them in the wrong direction or give anybody misconceptions,” Tanvi Asher said.
