The New York Thruway Authority will start collecting cash tolls again starting Thursday.
The state stopped collecting cash for tolls in March as part of the coronavirus response. Instead, bills were sent to drivers by their license plate.
After 11:59 p.m Wednesday, drivers without an E-Z pass will receive a toll ticket when they enter and be able to pay their toll with cash when exiting the thruway.
There will be precautions in place to curb the spread of COVID-19, including the installation of plexiglass barriers between toll booth workers and drivers. Staff will also wear masks and sanitize their area regularly.
The Thruway Authority says there may be some delays for cash customers during the reopening process.
Construction to transition the Thruway to a cashless tolling system will continue.
