No more Grand Slams for breakfast in the Rochester area.

Denny’s has closed five restaurants in the greater Rochester area, according to a May 14 filing with the New York State Department of Labor. Those locations are in Canandaigua, Geneseo, Geneva, Greece, and Henrietta.

The reason for the closures is described as the “severe financial environment.”

According to the notice, 187 employees are being affected by the closures.

At the Greece restaurant, 52 employees are being laid off. In Henrietta, that number is 44. At the Canandaigua location, 33 employees were affected. In Geneseo, 30 workers were laid off. In Geneva, 28 employees were affected by layoffs.

A spokesperson for Denny’s said the decision to close was made by the franchisee, adding that any decision to remain closed permanently or reopen in the future lies in the hands of the franchise owner.
